Dealing With Bureaucracy

One of the difficult
challenges we face is dealing with the bureaucracy we find at many public, and
some private agencies. Most commonly, it is not a matter of the
agency's lack of will to perform it's appointed functions, but an inability of
it's employees to overcome entrenched bureaucratic policy fostered by
miles of red tape and tons of paperwork. Add to that an often unclear
internal understanding of the levels of authority within these agencies, indecision on
the part of individual administrators, and their reluctance to "think
outside the box". The frustration can be overwhelming.
At RFA / TEXAS, we try to identify and contact the individuals with the responsibility and authority to deal with the issue at hand, communicate our viewpoint to them, and try to resolve issues with a minimum of delay and without being dragged through unnecessary channels.
An example of the above is the "Trapped Redfish Issue".
We wrote the Park Superintendent at Padre Island National Seashore regarding this issue. We hope it will have a positive effect. Click here to view that letter.
