FROM THE EDITOR: If you are a Texas fisherman who believes that Senate Bill 1790 should be defeated if it gets
to a vote in the Legislature, you have little recourse but to take it upon yourself to make your wishes known.
Conservation organizations, with the exception of the Texas R.F.A., will most likely take no stand on this issue
for fear of losing some members. No matter how you feel about croaker as bait,
the banning of a method of
fishing should never be considered at any time. Below is a sample letter you may use to let your elected
representative know your opposition………TN

(Sample letter for your elected representative)

I am a taxpayer/voter and one of the 700,000 saltwater stamp holders in Texas. I am against passage of
Senate Bill 1790 authored by Senator Jon Lindsay of Houston. I believe the banning of croaker, a
popular bait used by thousands of Texas anglers, sets a precedent that is dangerous for the future of
the sport of saltwater fishing. I also believe that SB 1790 will have an adverse effect on saltwater
fishing related businesses and on the economy of many coastal fishing towns.
