NIX'S NOTEBOOK
Sept. 19th, 2003
The Texas State Chapter of the Recreational
Fishing Alliance (R.F.A.), and
Friends of Texas Coastal Passes Inc., filed a joint lawsuit against the U.S.
Fish
and Wildlife Service on Wednesday, September 17, in Federal District Court in
Corpus Christi. This lawsuit is intended to force the immediate reopening and
restoration of Cedar Bayou and Vinson Slough, adjacent to the Aransas National
Wildlife Refuge near Rockport. R.F.A. Texas says the reopening is critical to
the
health of a myriad of fish and wildlife species in the area, including the
endangered
Whooping Crane. I applaud the Texas R.F.A. for taking the important Cedar Bayou
issue by the horns while a myriad of other groups and elected officials have
only
paid the issue "lip service".
